He Iwi Kotahi Tatou Trust

He Iwi Kotahi Tatou Trust was a community initiative which was started in the early 1980's in response to the youth and whanau needs of the day. The Trust continues on today serving the community's needs in many different ways. Most of the services provided, are staffed by local people. This has been a key factor in how the Trust sees the huge people potential in our community, and tries through its programmes to build the capacity for the community and its people for a better future.

Far North District Council Youth Development

Council was very proud to be able to support the work of the He Iwi Kotahi Tatou Trust team in their development of this project.  It was both a privilege and an awesome experience for the youth development team to watch the Rangatahi involved in the roadshow.  Their enthusiasm, spirit and passion were inspirational.

Council's role was to  monitor the contract on behalf of the Ministry of Youth Development. Also we were able to use Council facilities at very reduced prices to stage performances. We were very lucky to have people from  Council's  Northland Regional Cadetship Programme  as part of the Road Show team and part of the overall organising committee.

Council is currently reviewing the way in which it interacts with youth.  To see what they are up to, have a look at their web site www.fndc.govt.nz (type 'youth' in the search box). I'm sure that the Road Show success had a lot to do with their support over that period.

Ministry of Youth Development

The Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) - Te Manatû Whakahiato Taiohi -   are a government department with their head office in Wellington.  Their job is to  promote the interests of young people aged between 12 and 24 years inclusive.   They  encourage and assist the involvement of young people in the social, educational, economic and cultural development of New Zealand, both locally and nationally.

It is worth checking out their website www.myd.govt.nz as there is lots of interesting information and links for young people.

MYD provided the majority of the funding for the Be Who You're Born To be roadshow, in which we are all very grateful.  Thank you Ministry of Youth Development!

Child Youth & Family - Everyday Communities Project Northland

The Child Youth and Family - Everyday Communities Project Northland provide support and funding of social services with a focus on children, young people and their families in need of support.

The major focus of the Everyday Communities Programme was around violence and abuse against children. These topics were reflected in some of the drama and dialogues in the performances.

The Everyday Communities Project Northland supported the road show by providing T-shirts and Caps to awhi the messages that were being shared with all the communities throughout the tour. These were used to engage the audiences in "question and answer time" throughout each show and was a big hit with everyone.

ACC

ACC were supporting the Road Show travelling the northern region encouraging Rangatahi to be safe around issues to do with drink drive and speed, acohol, abuse - both physical and mental. There were dramas within the road show that depicted some of these issues.

Acknowledgements

We would like to thank all the whanau and members in the communities throughout the North who supported the Road Show and our Rangatahi. The awhi and support from all areas was truly amazing. We would also like to acknowledge the following people and organisations for helping us to make the road show the success that it was. Thank you.
